L'invention concerne des copolymères contenant comme comonomères incorporés par polymérisation : (a) de l'éthylène, (b) un ou plusieurs composés de formule (I), (c) éventuellement un ou plusieurs diesters de l'acide alcénylphosphonique, (d) éventuellement un ou plusieurs autres comonomères copolymérisables par voie radicalaire, les variables ayant les significations suivantes : R<SUP>1</SUP> représente un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe alkyle C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>10</SUB> ramifié ou non ramifié, R<SUP>2</SUP> représente un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe alkyle C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>10</SUB> ramifié ou non ramifié et R<SUP>3</SUP> représente un atome d'hydrogène, un groupe phényle, un groupe benzyle, un groupe alkyle C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>10</SUB> ramifié ou non ramifié ou un groupe hydroxy-C<SUB>2</SUB>-C<SUB>10</SUB>-alkyle ramifié ou non ramifié. Ces copolymères peuvent être présents sous forme d'acide libre ou être partiellement ou totalement neutralisés par un métal alcalin, un métal alcalinoterreux, de l'ammoniac ou une amine organique.
