Random block copolymers having formula (I), wherein R1 is -CH-CH- or (-CH2-)j, in which j is zero or an integer from one to eight; R2 is selected from hydrogen, straight and branched alkyl and alkylaryl groups containing up to 18 carbon atoms and derivatives or biologically and pharmaceutically active compounds covalently bonded to said copolymer; each R3 is independently an alkylene group containing up to 4 carbon atoms; y is an integer between about 5 and about 3000; and f is the percent molar fraction of alkylene oxide in the copolymer and ranges between about 1 and about 99 mole percent. Implantable medical devices and drug delivery implants containing the random block copolymers are also disclosed, along with methods for drug delivery and for preventing the formation of adhesions between injured tissues employing the random block copolymers. Polyarylate random block copolymers are also described.

L'invention concerne des copolymères blocs ayant la formule (I). Dans cette formule R¿1? est -CH=CH- ou (-CH¿2?-)¿j? où j est égal à zéro ou il s'agit d'un nombre entier entre un et huit; R¿2? est choisi parmi l'hydrogène, les groupes alkyle droits ou ramifiés et les groupes alkylaryle contenant jusqu'à 18 atomes de carbone. L'invention concerne également des dérivés de ces copolymères ou des composés ayant une activité biologique et pharmaceutique liés par covelence à ces copolymères; chaque R¿3? est, d'une manière indépendante, un groupe alkylène contenant jusqu'à 4 atomes de carbone; y est un nombre entier entre environ 5 et environ 3000; et f est la fraction molaire en pourcentage de l'oxyde d'alkylène dans le copolymère et sa valeur se situe entre 1 environ et 99 environ, en pour-cent de moles. L'invention concerne également des implants et des dispositifs médicaux pour l'administration de médicaments contenant le copolymère bloc aléatoire, ainsi que des méthodes pour administrer un médicament et empêcher la formation d'adhésions entre des tissus blessés, en utilisant les copolymères bloc aléatoires.
