The present invention relates generally to the field of prophylaxis and therapy for inflammatory and/or fibrotic diseases which include responses to injuries. In particular, the present invention is related to agents that can bind or complex copper such as thiomolybdate, and to the use of these agents in the prevention and treatment of inflammatory and/or fibrotic diseases. Exemplary thiomolybdates include mono-, di-, tri- and tetrathiomolybdate; these agents are administered to patients to prevent and/or treat inflammatory and/or fibrotic diseases, such as pulmonary disease including pulmonary fibrosis and acute respiratory distress syndrome, liver disease including liver cirrhosis and hepatitis C, kidney disease including renal interstitial fibrosis, scleroderma, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic fibrosis, keloid, secondary fibrosis in the gastrointestinal tract, hypertrophic burn scars, myocardial fibrosis, Alzheimer's disease, retinal detachment inflammation and/or fibrosis resulting after surgery, and graft versus host and host versus graft rejections.
L'invention concerne le champ prophylactique et thérapeutique pour des maladies inflammatoires et/ou fibreuses qui comprend une réponses aux blessures. L'invention concerne en particulier des agents qui peuvent lier ou complexer le cuivre, tels que le thiomolybdate, ainsi que l'utilisation desdits agents dans la prévention et le traitement des maladies inflammatoires et/ou fibreuses. Des thiomolybdates comprennent des mono-, di-, tri-, et tétrathiomolybdate. Lesdits agents sont administrés aux patients pour prévenir et/ou traiter des maladies inflammatoires et/ou fibreuses, telles que des maladies pulmonaires notamment la fibrose pulmonaire et le syndrome de détresse respiratoire aiguë, des maladies du foie notamment la cirrhose du foie et l'hépatite C, des maladies rénales telles que la fibrose interstitielle rénale, la sclérodermie, la fibrose cystique, la fibrose pancréatique, la chéloïde, la fibrose secondaire dans le tractus gastro-intestinal, les cicatrices de brûlures hypertrophiques, la fibrose myocardique, la maladie d'Alzheimer, l'inflammation du décollement rétinien et/ou la fibrose apparaissant après une intervention chirurgicale, et des rejets d'une greffe versus hôte et de l'hôte versus greffe.
