Abstract of the Disclosure A copying device provided with a glass plate and a co-operating cover and an improved locking mechanism for said cover comprising at least a permanent magnet combined with an electromagnet connected to a control circuit wherein the permanent magnet keeps the cover in the closed position against the glass plate, and at the end of the copying run the electromagnet is activated with a magnetic field thereby releasing the cover. This improved locking mechanism has the advantage over known mechanical mechanisms in that there is no wear on the components thereby increasing its reliability
