ABSTRACT A cordless telephone apparatus of the type having a fixed unit and a portable unit is described. Each unit has control circuitry for channel scanning to get hold of an idle channel. In order to charge the battery of the portable unit, the portable unit is attached to the fixed unit. When the two units are thus attached a connecting line transmits and receives signals between the two control circuits. Further circuitry synchronizes the channel scanning processes of the two control circuits through the connecting line. The invention,by correl- ating the channel scanning of the portable unit to that of the fixed unit reduces the time taken to connect the two units on receipt or transmission of a call.
