The invention relates to a core (1) which is formed from a raw material mixture comprising at least a solid powder resin and a further finely divided starting material, and which, in the thermally treated state, has a density of less than 2 g/cm3. The invention further relates to a process for producing cores (1), in which raw material components are mixed to give a raw material mixture and granulated to form cores (1), and the latter are subsequently subjected to a thermal treatment in the temperature range of 120°C to 220°C.
