ABSTRACT A cored tubular metallic arc electrode is provided for use in the gas-assisted cutting and gouging of metal substrates. The electrode comprises a wrought metal tube and a compacted core composition consisting essentially of particulate carbonaceous material contained therein, and optionally containing 0 to about 20% by weight of an additive based on the total weight of the core composition, the additive being selected from the group consisting of arc stabilizers, fluxing agents, and gas formers.
