ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: This invention relates to a phosphate-based, corrosion inhibiting pigment consisting of 3 to 97 weight % of MgHPO4 ? 3H2O, the balance being CaHPO4 ? 2H2O. The pigment is used to avoid corrosion of iron and iron alloys and is employed in the form of a painting composition or paste. Up to 95 weight % of the pigment can be replaced by a pigment exten- der.
