ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Corrosion of ferrous metals by aqueous brines is inhibited by including in the brine, an effective amount of a dispersible sulfur compound wherein the sulfur has an oxidation state of zero or less. Preferably, a quaternary pyridinium, quino- linium, or isoquinolinium salt is also employed. Inclusion of a cobalt salt is also sometimes de- sirable. 27,321-F
