ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A corrosion inhibitor mixture for ammonium sulfate- based fire-retardant compositions is provided herein. The mix- ture includes a water-soluble cyanide compound and a water soluble ortho-phosphate compound. The components of the corrosion inhibitor system are present in a minor effective amount at least sufficient to inhibit the corrosivity of said fire-retardant composition to aluminum, mild steel and brass to less than 1 mil per year. This system reduces the corrosiveness of ammonium sulfate-based composition thereby to meet the corrosion specif- cations for aerially applied fire-retardants.
