CORROSION RESISTANT PRIMER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Zinc pigments combined with an epoxy-based binder to produce a non-chromated primer formulation that is free of volatile organic compounds and provides corrosion resis- tance on metal surfaces. The formulation comprises an epoxy resin and hardener in substantially stoichiometric amount, together with a mixture of zinc pigments, the first comprising a chelating zinc phosphate pigment and the sec- ond comprising a zinc salt of an organonitro compound. The ratio of the zinc phosphate to the organonitro compound ranges from about 85:15 to 95:5. The total amount of zinc pigment in the primer formulation of the invention is at least about 3 parts per hundred of the resin (phr).
