Carbonyl sulfide (COS) from a COS-containing stream (106) is converted in a Claus plant (100) to elemental sulfur (152, 162) by oxidation of a first portion of the COS-containing stream to SO2 and by hydrolysis of a second portion of the COS-containing stream to H2S. In preferred aspects of the inventive subject matter, hydrolysis and/or oxidation of the COS is performed in the reactor furnace (10), while hydrolysis of the COS is performed in the reactor furnace (10), a hydrolysis reactor, and/or a catalytic converter (120, 130, 150).

Le sulfure de carbonyle (COS) issu d'un flux contenant du COS (106) est transformé, dans une installation Claus (100), en soufre élémentaire (152, 162), par l'oxydation en SO¿2 ?d'une première partie du flux contenant du COS, et par l'hydrolyse en H¿2?S d'une seconde partie du flux contenant du COS. Dans des aspects préférés de l'invention, l'hydrolyse et/ou l'oxydation du COS sont réalisées dans le four d'un réacteur (110), tandis que l'hydrolyse du COS est réalisée dans le four du réacteur (110), dans un réacteur d'hydrolyse, et/ou dans un convertisseur catalytique (120, 130, 150).
