An artificial tanning product comprising one or more compositions containing, separately or together, a cosmetically effective amount of dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as an artificial tanning agent, and one or more iron salt or salts. The iron salts can be any ferrous or ferric salts for example nitrate, gluconate or citrate. A method of applying the tanning product is also disclosed comprising application of an iron salt composition optionally further comprising a moisturiser in conjunction with separate or simultaneous application of a tanning composition comprising DHA.
