The invention relates to a cosmetic preparation comprising: (a) water soluble .beta.--(1,3) glucans, substantially free of .beta.-(1,6) linkages and having side chains comprising .beta.-(1,3) linkages, and (b) a (desoxy)ribonucleic acid, or a cleavage or degradation product thereof. The formulations are useful as care agents for skin or hair.
