ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Pentaerythritol is treated with a strongly alkaline reacting substance at temperatures ranging approximately from 180 to 220°C. The pentaerythritol thus treated serves as a costabl- lizer for polyvinyl containing chloride and as such it has excel- lent properties. Not only can the pentaerythritol thus treated be homogeneously incorporated in polyvinyl chloride without dif- ficulties but it has an effect which is so favourable that the application of a relatively small amount of this costablilzer is sufficient.
