A mechanism for use in controlling vertical movement of a surface, such as a table top, supported for movement between upper and lower vertical positions, including a counterbalance mechanism for counterbalancing at least part of the weight of the surface and/or a weight placed thereon, and a brake mechanism for releasably retaining the surface in a selected vertical position. The counterbalance mechanism includes a member having a first end supported for pivotal movement about a first axis and a spring tending to opposed pivotal movement of the member in a direction corresponding to lowering movement of the surface; and the brake mechanism includes a brake rod having one end supported for pivotal movement about a second axis disposed parallel to the first axis and a brake rod clamping mechanism supported by the member for pivotal movement about a third axis disposed parallel to the first axis and supported by the brake rod for movement lengthwise thereof with the clamping mechanism normally clamping against the brake rod to prevent pivot movement of the member in the direction corresponding to lowering movement of the surface, and an operator for manually releasing the clamping mechanism from clamping engagement with the brake rod.
Mécanisme de commande conçu pour déplacer verticalement une surface, comme le dessus d'une table, surface soutenue de telle sorte qu'elle puisse se déplacer entre des positions verticales supérieure et inférieure. Ce mécanisme comprend un dispositif d'équilibrage d'au moins une partie du poids de la surface et/ou d'un poids reposant sur elle, ainsi qu'un mécanisme de freinage servant à retenir la surface dans la position verticale choisie. Le mécanisme d'équilibrage comporte un élément dont une première extrémité est soutenue par une articulation autour d'un premier axe, un ressort pouvant s'opposer au mouvement de pivotement de cet élément dans une direction correspondant à un mouvement d'abaissement de la surface; le mécanisme de freinage comporte une tige de freinage dont une extrémité est articulée autour d'un deuxième axe parallèle au premier et un mécanisme de serrage de la tige de frein articulé au niveau de l'élément pour pivoter autour d'un troisième axe parallèle au premier et soutenu par la tige de frein pour pouvoir effectuer un mouvement longitudinal par rapport à lui, le mécanisme de serrage serrant normalement la tige de frein pour empêcher que l'élément ne tourne dans une direction correspondant au mouvement d'abaissement de la surface; le mécanisme de freinage comporte également un opérateur pour libérer manuellement le mécanisme de serrage de la tige de frein auquel il est rattaché par serrage.
