Apparatus and method for vacuum countergravity casting of molten metal wherein a gas permeable, self-supporting mold is supported in an inverted casting position in an open bottom container with a particulate bed compacted about the mold. The mold may comprise a mold stack having a plurality of mold members stacked side-by-side to form a plurality of mold cavities therebetween. The particulate bed may comprise loose, unbonded particulate compacted in-situ about the mold to support the mold stack in the container and press the mold members sealingly together before, during and after filling with molten metal.
Appareil et méthode servant au moulage par contre-gravité sous vide dans lequel un moule autoportant, perméable au gaz, est supporté en position inversée de moulage dans un contenant à fond ouvert à l'aide d'un lit de particules compactées autour du moule. Le moule peut être constitué d'un empilage de moules comptant plusieurs éléments de moules empilés côte à côte de manière à former plusieurs cavités de moule entre eux. Le lit de particules peut comprendre des particules libres non liées qui sont compactées sur place autour du moule pour supporter l'empilage dans le contenant et pour presser ensemble de manière étanche les éléments de moule avant, pendant et après le remplissage par du métal en fusion.
