ABSTRACT A coupler and air pump are disclosed for dispensing a beverage from a container having a valve. The air pump comprises a pump housing including an interior cylinder having a floor and the pump housing includes a base. A piston is retained within the cylinder of the pump housing for providing a source of compress- ed air; there being means for returning said piston to the top of its stroke, the returning means being retained within said pump housing; and an air passage extending from the floor of the cylin- der through the base of the pump housing. A beverage passage is within the base of the pump housing. The coupler comprises a coupler housing including a central cylindrical bore therein; a substantially cylindrical probe movably seated within the cylindri- cal bore of the coupler housing, the probe including a probe head for sealing engagement with the valve of a container of beverage, a top end remote from the probe head, a first flange adjacent the top end of the probe, a second flange delineating the end of the probe head, a recess adjacent the second flange, a central longi- tudinal beverage passage, an air passage parallel to but offset from the beverage passage, the air passage running from the top end of the probe to the recess adjacent to the second flange, and means for sealing the air passage and the beverage passage of the probe head relative to the container valve and from each other. The movable probe can be actuated; the coupler can be rotatably joined to a container valve; and the air and beverage passages in the probe can be aligned with the air and beverage passages in the base. The probe can be prevented from rotating relative to the air pump; and the base of the air pump can be joined to the top end of the probe.
