A B S T R A C T An indexing wheel on a shaft, faces a locking wheel having the same tooth-spacing, tooth-thickness and pitch-circle diameter mounted upon a sleeve placed over the shaft. The indexing wheel has an uneven number of internal teeth. Part of the circumference of the locking wheel is devoid of teeth and two catches are located inside the wheel disc. A lever arranged upon the shaft- sleeve, adjacent the locking wheel, is controlled by a torsion-spring and an electromagnetic pawl in such a manner that the fingers of the lever move a catch into the internal teeth for the purpose of coupling the indexing wheel to the locking wheel. After rotating through a small angle, the locking and indexing wheels are driven jointly by a single gearwheel.
