ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to electrical connector couplings and particularly to a coupling for providing threaded engagement between electrical connector shells. Electrical connector apparatus usually include a coupling ring rotatably mounted on one shell and arranged for threaded engagement with another shell. Occasionally vibrational forces loosen the coupling ring from the shell. Prior arrangements for resisting loosening incorporate smoothly contoured teeth fixed on a coupling ring and engaging similarly contoured teeth on one connector shell. While this arrangement holds the members against loosening, it is expensive and difficult to operate. Other prior arrangements incorporate spring detents, but disassembly cannot be provided without auxiliary means for disengaging the detents. The present invention avoids the above prob- lems by providing a ratchet washer keyed to the coupling ring and interposed between a wave washer and a flange on one connector shell. The ratchet washer has axially ex- tending ratchet teeth keyed to the ring for rotation therewith. The ratchet teeth are biased against teeth on one shell. Each tooth on the shell has a cam face for engagement with a similar cam face on each tooth on the ratchet washer. A stop face is also formed on each tooth and the stop faces engage for providing a large resistance to rotation of the coupling ring in the loosening direc- tion.
