ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cover for a metal-melting furnace, more particul- arly an electric-arc furnace, has a cooling coil secured to the frame of the cover and distributed over the surface thereof, there being exposed to the furnace hearth at least one cooling coil whose turns lie one against the other. The cooling coil exposed to the furnace hearth leaves an area above the centre of the cover free and is designed as a self-supporting structure. The outer frame of the cover is detachably connected to an inter- mediate frame arranged above the cooling coil in a plane running parallel with the cover-frame and adapted to be connected to a mechanism for lifting the cover of the arc-furnace. A lined centre part of the cover is suspended detachably from the inter- mediate frame in such a manner that the outer periphery of the centre part of the cover bears against the inner periphery of the cooling coil.
