A disposable cover for electromagnetic treatment applicators prevents undesired exposure to potentially harmful radiation. The cover is a pouch-like structure having a back surface (which faces opposite, or away from, the treatment area) constructed from shielding material, such as metallized polyethylene. At least a portion of the cover which faces the treatment area is constructed solely from non-shielding material. Securing means, such as adhesive strips, ZIP-LOCK®, or other interlocking edges, secure the applicator inside the cover and close off any leaks. The electromagnetic properties of the cover are integrated into the circuitry for the treatment applicator, such that the applicator is not functional in the absence of the cover. In use, an electromagnetic treatment applicator is inserted into the cover and positioned over the area to be treated, with the non-shielding, or "window", portion of the cover overlying the treatment area. Once assembled, the applicator/cover combination forms a closely matched and tuned network for effecting a highly efficient RF output. When activated, the generated electromagnetic energy only exits the cover through the opening or "window", thereby preventing exposure of the patient or caregiver to potentially harmful radiation.
L'invention concerne une couverture jetable pour applicateurs de traitement électromagnétique, qui évite toute exposition indésirable à une radiation potentiellement nocive. La couverture est une structure du type poche et comporte une surface arrière (qui fait face ou dos à la zone de traitement) constituée d'un matériau de blindage, tel que du polyéthylène métallisé. Au moins une partie de la couverture qui fait face à la zone de traitement est uniquement constituée d'un matériau qui n'est pas un matériau de blindage. Des moyens de fixation, tels que des bandes adhésives, ZIP-LOCK®, ou d'autres bords à enclenchement, maintiennent l'applicateur à l'intérieur de la couverture et stoppent les fuites éventuelles. Les propriétés électromagnétiques de la couverture sont intégrées aux circuits de l'applicateur de traitement, de façon que ledit applicateur ne puisse fonctionner sans la couverture. Lors de l'utilisation, un applicateur de traitement électromagnétique est inséré dans la couverture et placé au-dessus de la zone à traiter, la partie non constituée de matériau de blindage ou partie <= fenêtre >= de la couverture recouvrant la zone de traitement. Une fois assemblée, la combinaison applicateur/couverture forme un réseau accordé et bien adapté pour effectuer une sortie haute fréquence extrêmement efficace. Lorsque le dispositif est activé, l'énergie électromagnétique ne sort de la couverture qu'au travers de l'ouverture ou <= fenêtre >=, évitant ainsi les expositionsdu patient ou du soignant à des radiations potentiellement nocives.
