The invention provides a covering material for agricultural soil, which material contains starch or a derivative or fraction thereof as binder together with a structure-improving amount of an acid and/or an oil, and a finely divided vegetable filler such as straw. The oil is for instance palm oil or linseed oil in an amount of 1-25 wt. %. The acid is preferably 0.2-4 % by weight of phosphoric acid or citric acid. The material may further comprise fungicides, bentonite and/or rubber latices.

Matière de couverture pour terres agricoles, renfermant, à titre de liant, de l'amidon ou un dérivé ou une fraction d'amidon, ainsi qu'une quantité d'acide et/ou d'huile apte à améliorer la structure du liant, et une charge végétale finement divisée, par exemple de la paille. L'huile peut être de l'huile de palme ou de lin présente selon une quantité allant de 1 à 25 % en poids. De préférence, l'acide est de l'acide phosphorique ou citrique présent selon une quantité allant de 0,2 à 4 % en poids. Ladite matière peut également comporter des fongicides, de la bentonite et/ou des latex d'élastomère-caoutchouc.
