A cover for a reel of welding wire comprises a sleeve having axially opposite ends extending across the outer peripheries of the flanges of the reel and having radially inwardly open circumferentially extending recesses interengaging with the flanges to releasably axially retain the sleeve on the reel and to seal the space between the flanges so as to protect welding wire wound about the hub of the reel between the flanges from exposure to air and moisture. Seals are provided between the recesses and reel flanges for the- latter purpose. In accordance with another embodiment, the cover comprises two portions which snap-lock together to completely enclose the reel. The reel and cover are relatively rotatable and in accordance with another aspect of the invention the cover can remain on the reel during use and is provided with an integral or detachable nose which supports the wire during unwinding thereof from the reel.
Cette invention concerne un couvre-bobine de fil-électrode sous la forme d'un manchon dont les bouts opposés chevauchent le pourtour extérieur des flasques de la bobine et comportent dans leur face intérieure des rainures circulaires dans lesquelles se logent lesdites flasques de la bobine pour maintenir le manchon sur la bobine de façon amovible et assurer une fermeture étanche protégeant le fil-électrode contre l'air et l'humidité ambiants. Des garnitures d'étanchéité placées entre les parois des rainures et les flasques de la bobine servent expressément à cette fin. Dans une autre variante de l'invention, le couvre-bobine se compose de deux parties à assembler par pression pour former une enceinte de protection fermée. La bobine est libre de tourner par rapport au couvre-bobine et, selon un autre aspect de l'invention, celui-ci peut demeurer en place au déroulage du fil-électrode puisqu'il est doté d'un guide-fil intégré ou rapporté servant à soutenir le fil-électrode à la sortie de la bobine.
