CRANE BOOM EXTENDING, RETRACTING AND COOPERATIVE LATCHING ARRANGEMENT Abstract To reduce the weight and increase the lifting capacity of a multi-section telescopic crane boom (20), a single hydraulic cylinder (29,30) for the full ex- tension and retraction of individual boom sections (22,23,24,25) is anchored (31) in the relatively stationary boom base section (21). A sled structure (32) surrounding the single cylinder (29) and moving therewith has guided engagement through plates (51,52, 53,54) fixed to the movable boom sections (25,24,23,22) at or near their rear ends. Driving finger mechanisms (67,75,76,78,80,81) on opposite sides of the sled (32) are biased (70) toward driving engagement with the plates (51-54) of the movable boom sections and are retractable into chamber (68) of the sled. A coopera- tive locking pin operating assembly (87) for the movable boom sections is fixed on the forward end of the boom base section (21) and includes power retracting devices (92-95,106,107,112) which operate mating retracting cranks (113,114,117) and locking pin sets (96) individu- al to the movable boom sections when the retracting cranks (113) are aligned beneath the power retracting devices (92-95, 106, 107, 112). The movable boom sec- tions (25,24,23,22) are equipped near their outer and inner ends with locking receivers (88,89) for said locking pins.
