ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to crankcase for multi-cylinder, in line, reciprocating-piston, internal-combustion engines, in which the crankcase has at least one longitudinal lubricating-oil passage from which additional lubricating-oil passages run. The addi- tional passages run in bearing walls located transversely of the longitudinal axis of the crankcase, to camshaft and crankshaft bearings. The crankshaft bearings are of the suspended type and have bearing caps attached to the crankcase by means of bolts, In accordance with the invention, a longitudinal lubricating- oil passage is arranged close to the camshaft bearing and, where there is more than one lubricating-oil passage, is connected to those located on the opposite side of the crankcase by a duct, From the point of view of stress engineering, the duct is separa- ted from the dynamically stressed transverse walls. Further, in accordance with the invention, the connecting passages to the crankshaft bearings pierce the abutment surfaces of the crank- shaft-bearing caps externally of the bearing-cap bolts and open into transverse passages, in the camshaft bearing caps, which intersect with the bearing-cap bolt-holes into which they open close to the joint in the crankshaft bearing.
