A method and apparatus for molding crayons of novel shapes. The apparatus includes a one or more two-part mold assemblies, and one or more crayon bars. When the two-part mold is closed it defines a mold cavity having a volume approximately equal to the volume of the crayon bar. The crayon bar is formed from a wax-like material, such as paraffin or beeswax, to which a non-toxic pigment has been added, which pigment will drop when the crayon bar is rubber across paper or the like. The wax-like material is selected to be deformable when heated to a temperature range between body temperature and an upper temperature below that of scalding water. In use the crayon bar will be heated to its deformable temperature, placed in a mold, the mold then being closed and pressure being applied to cause the crayon bar to deform to the shape of the mold cavity. In order to facilitate pressure being applied the kit also includes press means, and may include a reservoir in which the crayon bar may be heated.
