Devices, packaging and methodology for efficiently and repeatably creating aerosolized bursts of an insulin containing formulation are disclosed. Devices are hand-held, self-contained units which are automatically actuated at the same release point in a patient's inspiratory flow cycle. The release point is automatically determined either mechanically or, more preferably calculated by a microprocessor which receives data from a sensor making it possible to determine inspiratory flow rate and inspiratory volume. Actuation of the device forces insulin formulation through a porous membrane (3) of the container (1) which membrane has pores having a diameter in the range of about 0.25 to 3.0 microns, preferably 0.25 to 1.5 microns.

L'invention concerne des dispositifs, un conditionnement et une méthodologie de création de giclées projetées par aérosols d'une formulation contenant de l'insuline de manière efficace et renouvelable. Les dispositifs sont des dispositifs à main, autonomes et actionnés automatiquement au niveau du même point de libération dans un cycle inspiratoire d'un patient. Le point de libération est déterminé automatiquement, soit mécaniquement soit idéalement par calcul à l'aide d'un microprocesseur qui reçoit des données provenant d'un capteur permettant de déterminer le débit inspiratoire et le volume pulmonaire à l'inspiration. L'actionnement du dispositif force la formulation à base d'insuline à passer à travers une membrane poreuse (3) du récipient (1), membrane présentant des pores d'un diamètre compris entre environ 0,25 et 3,0 microns, de préférence 0,25 et 1,5 micron.
