16 CREST GATE ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A crest gate for a dam spillway wherein one or more panels are hinged to flexible bladder marginal edge portions so that inflating the bladder causes the panels to move up and hold back water behind the dam. The bladder may itself define the hinge, or the panel may be fabricated from an elastomeric material and itself, define the hinge. The seal is further facilitated by providing a rope element (199) at the opposite side of a clamping bar (134) from that of the hinged panel edge (120a), wrapping the bladder sheet around the rope element, and passing the marginal edge portion under the clamping bar.
