A laminated multilayer film substrate for use in the production of bank notes. The film substrate includes a first layer comprising at least about 50 weight percent of a high density polyethylene having a density of at least about 0.95, the first layer oriented in at least a first direction to a degree which is at least three times greater than the degree of orientation present in a direction substantially normal to the first direction, and a second lays comprising at least about 50 weight percent of a high density polyethylene having a density of at least about 0.95, the second layer oriented in at least a first direction to a degree which is at least three times greater than the degree of orientation present in a direction substantially normal to the first direction, wherein the second layer is laminated to the film substrate so that the first direction of orientation of the second layer is substantially normal to the first direction of orientation of the first layer. The resultant films having good dead-fold characteristics and other properties, making them highly suited for the production of bank notes and other security documents.
L'invention concerne un film de base à couches multiples destiné à la fabrication de billets de banque. Le film de base comporte une première couche contenant au moins 50 pour cent en poids d'un polyéthylène haute densité ayant une densité d'au moins 0,95 environ, la première couche ayant un degré d'orientation dans au moins une première direction qui est au moins trois fois plus important que le degré d'orientation dans la direction sensiblement perpendiculaire à la première direction, et une seconde couche contenant au moins 50 pour cent en poids d'un polyéthylène haute densité ayant une densité d'au moins 0,95 environ, la seconde couche ayant un degré d'orientation dans au moins une première direction qui est au moins trois fois plus important que le degré d'orientation dans la direction sensiblement perpendiculaire à la première direction, la seconde couche étant stratifiée avec la première couche pour que la première direction d'orientation de la seconde couche soit sensiblement perpendiculaire à la première direction d'orientation de la première couche. Les films résultants ne forment pas des plis indésirables et ont d'autres propriétés qui sont très utiles pour la production de billets de banque et de documents de sécurité.
