ABSTRACT Crosslinked poly(parabanic acid) is obtained by heating poly(parabanic acid) at a temperature in the range of 200-300°C in the presence of a crosslinking amount of a sulfonic acid, ester or salt thereof. The presence of the sulfonic acid, ester or salt thereof provides for a shorter curing time as compared with thermal crosslinking in the absence of the sulfonic acid, ester or salt thereof, thereby avoiding oxidative degradation. The crosslinked poly(parabanic acids) are useful for the production of magnetic tapes, films for use in flexible printed circuits, cable wraps, fibers such as tire cord fibers and the like.
