Disclosed is crosslinked, ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) that is stabilized with a-tocopherol. Such an UHMW-PE can be obtained by letting a-tocopherol diffuse into the crosslinked ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene. Molded bodies made of said UHMW-PE containing a-tocopherol are provided with high resistance to oxidation, which makes said molded bodies suitable especially for endoprostheses.

Selon l'invention, un polyéthylène réticulé de poids moléculaire très élevé (polyéthylène UHMW) est stabilisé avec de l' alpha -tocophérol. On peut obtenir un tel polyéthylène UHMW en faisant diffuser à l'intérieur du polyéthylène de poids moléculaire très élevé réticulé de l' alpha -tocophérol. Des corps moulés constitués de ce polyéthylène UHMW contenant du tocophérol sont très résistants à l'oxydation, ce qui les rend particulièrement aptes à être utilisés pour constituer des endoprothèses.
