Disclosed is an optimized process and apparatus for more efficiently and economically carrying out the liquid-phase oxidation of an oxidizable compound. Such liquid-phase oxidation is carried out in a bubo a column reactor that provides for a highly efficient reaction at relatively low temperatures. When the oxidized compound is para-xylene and the product from the oxidation reaction is crude terephthalic acid (CTA), such CTA product can be purified and separated by more economical techniques than could be employed if the CTA were formed by a conventional high-temperature oxidation process.

L'invention concerne un procédé optimalisé et un appareil pour effectuer, de manière plus efficace et moins onéreuse, l'oxydation en phase liquide d'un composé oxydable. Cette oxydation en phase liquide est exécutée dans un réacteur à colonnes à bulles qui permet de produire une réaction extrêmement efficace à des températures relativement faibles. Lorsque le composé oxydé est du paraxylène et que le produit issu de la réaction d'oxydation est de l'acide téréphtalique brut (CTA), ledit produit CTA peut être purifié et isolé au moyen de techniques plus économiques que si le CTA avait été formé à l'aide d'un procédé d'oxydation haute température traditionnel.
