A method for crushing blocks of foam material in order to crack the small membranes that form the pores of the foam material, characterized in that said blocks are compressed in one direction and that said blocks of foam material are subjected in their compressed condition or during the compressing process, to at least one shift in a direction that differs from the direction in which the compressing was carried out.
