Abstract A crust breaker device being used to break crusts of alumi- nium electrolysis cells, comprises a driven unit with a bar, for instance a piston-/sylinder device with a piston rod (7). The rod is provided for axial movement, essentially in the vertical direction, and to the lower part of the rod is connected a cutter bar or crow bar (5) which is designed to be moved through the crust and make a hole therein. The cutter bar (5) is connected to, but electrically isolated from the rod (7) by means of a cast connection (1,3,4,6).
