A cryoprotectant for use with a treatment device for improved removal of heat from subcutaneous lipid-rich cells of a subject having skin is provided. The cryoprotectant is a non-freezing liquid, gel, or paste for allowing pre- cooling of the treatment device below 0°C while preventing the formation of ice thereon. The cryoprotectant may also prevent freezing of the treatment device to the skin or ice from forming from moisture seeping out from the skin. The cryoprotectant may further be hygroscopic, thermally conductive, and biocompatible.

La présente invention a pour objet un cryoprotecteur pouvant être employé avec un dispositif de traitement destiné à l'élimination améliorée de la chaleur de cellules sous-cutanées riches en lipides d'un sujet possédant une peau. Le cryoprotecteur est un liquide, un gel ou une pâte qui ne gèle pas et qui permet le pré-refroidissement du dispositif de traitement à une température inférieure à 0 °C tout en empêchant la formation de glace sur ledit dispositif. Le cryoprotecteur peut également empêcher la congélation du dispositif de traitement au niveau de la peau ou l'apparition de glace du fait de l'humidité transpirant de la peau. Le cryoprotecteur peut en outre être hygroscopique, conducteur thermique et biocompatible.
