PILLARED SILICATE A ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pillared silicate or metallosilicate formed from a layered silicate or metallosilicate which exhibits an X-ray diffraction pattern having the characteristic lines given in Table 1 of the specification; and comprising pillars of at least one oxide of an element from group IB, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, IVA, IVB, VA, VB, VIA, VIIA and VIIIA of the Periodic Table interposed between layers of said layered silicate, to separate and support said layers.
