A new family of crystalline manganese phosphate compositions has been found having an extended network which network can be a one-, two-, or three-dimensional network and having an empirical formula of: (A a+)v(Mn b+)(M c+)x P y O x. where A is a templating agent such as an alkali metal, M is a metal such as Al, Fe3+ and "b" is the average manganese oxidation state and varies from greater than 3.0 to about 4Ø These compositions can be used as adsorbents and as catalysts in the oxidation of hydrocarbons.
