A yarn, fabric, and garment suitable for use in arc and flame protection and having improved flash fire protection contains a majority, by weight, of meta-aramid fibers having a degree of crystallinity of at least 20 percent and a minority of modacrylic fibers, para-aramid fibers, and antistatic fibers. Garments made from the yarns provide thermal protection such that a wearer would experience less than a 65 percent predicted body burn when exposed to a flash fire exposure of 4 seconds per ASTM F 1930, while maintaining a Category 2 arc rating per ASTM F 1959 and NFPA 70E.
L'invention concerne un fil, un tissu et un vêtement conçus pour être utilisés dans une protection contre un arc et une flamme et qui présente une protection améliorée contre un feu à inflammation instantanée contenant une majorité, en poids, de fibres de méta-aramide ayant un degré de cristallinité d'au moins 20 pour cent et une minorité de fibres modacryliques, de fibres de para-aramide et de fibres antistatiques. Des vêtements fabriqués à partir des fils fournissent une protection thermique telle qu'un porteur subira moins de 65 pour cent de la brûlure corporelle prévue lorsqu'il est exposé à un feu à inflammation instantanée pendant 4 secondes par la norme ASTM F1930, tout en maintenant un arc normalisé de catégorie 2 par ASTM F1959 et NFPA 70E.
