A masonry culvert is formed from channel shaped components, including bottom components and inverted top components. The bottom components connect together end to end to form an upwardly open channel, while the top components connect end to end on top of the bottom components to complete the culvert. The reduced height culvert components are easier to handle and transport than full height components. They are more readily manufactured by casting them as inverted channels over a permanent mould core using movable end pieces and side panels. The cast component can be lifted directly off the core without the need to dismantle the core from the interior of a box-shaped culvert section.
