ABSTRACT Adducts of an epoxy resin and a compound containing at least one aromatic hydroxyl group and at least one polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated group per molecule are prepared which are optionally reacted with water, a secondary amine or a phenol which product is copolymerized with a polymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and a polymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated compound free of carboxylic acid groups. This product is rendered water miscible by reaction with a primary, secondary or tertiary amine or an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate. This product can then be cured with any suitable curing agent such as phenol/aldehyde compounds, urea/aldehyde compounds and melamine/aldehyde compounds and blocked isocyanates. 32,491-F
