A curable topcoat composition and apparatus useful for preparing stable multi- layered laminates, such as data carrying devices, and methods for preparing and using the composition. The composition includes a polymerizable composition and a polymeric binder. In preferred embodiments, a polymerisation initiator and a chain transfer agent are also added to the composition. The composition is substantially plasticizer free. The methods of using the composition include incorporating the composition into a topcoat film useful for storing the topcoat composition prior to use in preparing data carrying devices, such as cards.

Cette invention se rapporte à une composition de couche de finition polymérisable ainsi qu'à un appareil servant à la préparation de stratifiés multicouches stables, du type dispositifs de support de données. Elle se rapporte en outre à des procédés de préparation et d'utilisation de ladite composition. Ladite composition contient une composition polymérisable et un liant polymère. Dans les réalisations préférées de l'invention, on ajoute à ladite composition un amorceur de polymérisation et un agent de migration de chaîne. Ladite composition ne contient pratiquement pas de plastifiant. Les procédés d'utilisation de la composition consistent à incorporer la composition à un film de couche de finition de façon à stocker ladite composition de couche de finition avant de l'utiliser dans la préparation de dispositifs de support de données du type cartes.
