CURING SYSTEM FOR NATURAL RUBBER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for preparing natural rubber compounds suitable for high temperature mechanical purposes which comprises the steps: (A) dispersing urethane cross-linker in the rubber at a temperature up to about 125°C and (B) solubilizing at a temperature of about 90-110°C in the dis- persion of (A) a sulfur efficient vulcanization component which comprises a sulfur accelerator which is a catalyst for the urethane crosslinker. During step (A), (i) reinforcing filler, (ii) antioxidant and (iii) metal oxide activator, e.g. zinc oxide are advantageously added. Rubber soluble metal soaps are also preferably added during (A). During step (B), (i) rhombic sulfur or sulfur-donor or combinations thereof, (ii) sulfur accelerator which is a catalyst for the urethane crosslinker and (iii) sulfur delayed action accelerator are added in amounts and in a way that permits solubilization of the sulfur efficient vulcanization component in the dispersion obtained in step (A). Thereafter, curing at temperatures in a range of about 140°-180°C effects essentially reversionless modulus in about 10-30 minutes.
