-17- "CURLING BROOM" ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Curling brooms, whether made from natural or syn- thetic fibres, integrally moulded synthetic plastic, covered with foam and a sock or flat belt type brooms, also cover- ed with foam and a sock, all suffer from a disadvantage in that flexibility is built into the broom and cannot be var- ied so that a great variety of brooms of differing flexi- bility and/or stiffness have to be manufactured for indi- viduals who have different sweeping abilities and methods. This invention overcomes this disadvantage by providing means whereby stiffness or flexibility of a broom may be varied within limits. This consists, for example, of at- taching flexible sheets of plastic or metal, one upon each side of the flat surface of the broom having varying de- grees of stiffness or inserting a flexible sheet centrally of the fibres of a broom. Alternatively, flexible rods can be inserted in longitudinal apertures formed in the inte- gral or flat type synthetic broom to increase or decrease the flexibility. These rods can also be adjustable as to the degree of penetration within the apertures. Longitu- dinally extending plastic pocket or tube can be laced within a fibre broom to receive rods or the like for the same pur- poses. Alternatively, rods or sticks of flexible material may be substituted for the flat sheets and the handle may be adjusted for length, flexibility and the like.
