A CURLING IRON ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A curling iron for curling or waving a lock of hair twined around a heated iron rod, wherein an iron rod/ clamping member assembly is mounted rotatably on the iron handle and mechanical or electrical means is provided for rotating the assembly to facilitate the curling or waving operation. Preferably, the iron rod/clamping member assembly is mounted detachably on a rotatable shaft housed within the iron handle to enable ready replacement of the assembly as well as angular positioning of the assembly with respect to the iron handle.
