A curling slider is formed of friction reducing material and has a generally continuously smooth lower surface for contacting the ice. The slider is associated with a portion of reduced thickness in a localised zone that underlies the ball of the foot of the wearer. This portion may be a depression in a lower surface of the slider or in an upper sole above the slider and overcomes problems of lateral instability of the curler's slider foot when delivering the rock.
