A Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistivity (PTC) element has a resistivity that increases as the temperature increases. Circuit breakers having PTC elements can achieve better overload and short circuit protection than existing products. Circuit breakers hving PTC elements are also configured as current limiting devices for low, medium and high voltage applications wherein the amount of arcing is reduced and the arc is extinguished by interposition of an insulating body between the contacts.

Selon cette invention, un élément de résistivité à coefficient de température positif (PTC) présente une résistivité qui augmente au fur et à mesure que la température augmente. Des disjoncteurs comportant ces éléments PTC peuvent permettre d'atteindre une meilleure protection contre la surcharge et les courts-circuits par rapport à des produits existants. Ce type de disjoncteur est également conçu comme dispositif de limitation courant pour appareils à tensions basse, moyenne et haute dans lesquels la formation d'arcs est réduite et l'arc soufflé par interposition d'un corps isolant entre les contacts.
