This invention is a curved surgical needle (10) and a method for producing the same from a solid sheet of material (30) rather than from coiled wire including the steps of drilling a bore in one edge (38) of the material (30), grinding an edge (36) opposite the drilled edge to form a sharpened point (18), curving the material, and cutting the material at a point of equal distance between each drilled bore (16) to provide a surgical needle (10). A suture (15) is then attached to the surgical needle, optionally lubricated, sterilized, and packaged by suitable means known in the art.

La présente invention concerne une aiguille chirurgicale courbe (10) et un procédé permettant de fabriquer cette dernière à partir d'une feuille de matériau (30) solide plutôt qu'à partir d'un fil hélicoïdal. Ledit procédé consiste à percer un trou dans un bord (38) du matériau (30), à meuler un bord (36) opposé au bord percé afin de former un bord affûté (18), à recourber le matériau, et à couper le matériau en un endroit situé à distance égale de chaque trou percé (16) afin de constituer une aiguille chirurgicale (10). On attache alors un fil de suture (15) à l'aiguille chirurgicale, lequel est lubrifié facultativement, stérilisé et emballé selon des procédés adéquats appartenant à la technique connue.
