The cushioning conversion machine may include a length measuring device (22) for accurately measuring the length of a pad being produced and a pad-transferring assembly (24) for transferring the pads from the conversion assemblies (50, 52, 54, 56) of the cushioning conversion machine to the transitional zone. The transitional zone may be a slide with its slide direction oriented perpendicular to the discharge direction of the cushioning conversion machine to conserve space and orderly arrange the produced pads.
