This invention is a medical bandaging product (10) which includes a storage package (13) formed of a moisture impervious material, sealable to prevent entry of moisture with a medical material (14) positioned in the storage package (13), and sealed therein against entry of moisture until use. The medical material (14) includes a substrate (16) having variable thickness with a predetermined edge area to provide less rigidity to the edge areas for ease in molding the medical material around the part to be bandaged. A reactive system is impregnated into or coated onto the substrate, the system remaining stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions, and hardening upon exposure to sufficient moisture to form a rigid, self- supporting structure. A protective wrapping (18) encloses the substrate along its length to provide a barrier between the substrate (16) and the skin of a patient when the material is in use.
L'invention porte sur un bandage médical (10) comportant un emballage (13) de stockage fait d'un matériau imperméable à l'humidité et refermable pour empêcher l'humidité de pénétrer dans le matériau médical (14) placé à l'intérieur jusqu'à l'utilisation. Ledit matériau (14) comporte un substrat (16) d'épaisseur variable et une zone de bordure prédéterminée réduisant la rigidité des parties latérales et facilitant le moulage du matériau sur la partie du corps à bander. Un système de réactifs, qui imprègne le substrat ou le recouvre, reste stable lorsqu'il est maintenu sensiblement sans humidité, mais durcit en présence d'une humidité suffisante pour former une structure rigide et autoporteuse. Une enveloppe protectrice (18), entourant le substrat sur toute sa longueur, forme une barrière entre le substrat (16) et la peau du patient lors de l'utilisation.
